Safari Completed

After 7 full on days of riding through bush and soft sand Andrew completed the Oz safari, placing 29th overall withing the bike category. There were a few minor issues with the bike at the beginning that kept everyone in the support crew on tender hooks but the service crew were able to resolve these issues in-leiu of sleep. Thanks Mal.

A HUGE thank you to the support crew for without them and Mal, Andrew probably would not have been able to finish.

Well done everyone. A HUGE team effort.

Oz Safari 2011

In two days we leave to cross the country via car with the camping gear, bike and support crew in tow. The 2011 Safari starts in Geraldton on Friday 23rd Sept. We will need to be ready.

Andrew will be pumped and ready to go, excited by the challenge that he faces having missed out last time by a whisker to complete.......and scored an impressive injury to boot!

Stay tuned.......

Dakar 2012 Entry in

Process started for participation in the 2012 Dakar Rally in South America

In action during the Safari

More repair required than expected

Well on return to Toronto, after a visit to the Physio it was off to see the doctor as I had very limited rotator motion on the right arm.

x-Ray found a nice fracture which started to separate.

The Doc said he had to do some magic and contacted a good friend who turned out to be one of the top orthopedic surgeon in Canada and he agreed to help out

6 days later

The rest of the rally went well

The rest of the rally went well - way more technical than I was expecting - windy through heavily wooded areas at times - especially around norseman

With my shoulder giving me a bit of hip - I came in usually last each day.

Day 2 was particularly long taking about 8 hours to complete due to issues with the lights - but we finished.

Day 3 we experienced some creek bed soft sand which was interesting - hard to get use to - but good experience.

Day 4 and 5 lots of fesh fesh - yuk and lots of falling down - but we got through it. Shoulder is feeling very sore.

First Day bingle

10km into the prologue - got passed and didn't slow down quicker enough - probably in the excitement of getting going.
In the dust - came unstuck on a big rut and went down, getting my leg stuck under the rear wheel.
Twisted free, but did something to my shoulder, it hurt like hell.

Managed to get the bike back up and of I went - realizing the pain in the shoulder is not going away.
Kept on going although much slower and more carefully than normal.
Finished the stage and got back to the bivouac.

Went a found the medical ten to get someone to look at the shoulder.

Passed through Scrutineering

Well we made it through - thanks to the guys - we managed to locate the an electrical system

the main thing is we are through and raring to go

Hours to go

Getting close now - Butterflies are rampant at the moment - keen to get going.

Few test runs on the bike - should do the job nicely

And here we are with hours to go........

Malcolm has worked miracles and pulled all the jigsaw pieces together - well done

Mal has been working hard to getting everything ready on the bike for the Safari with less than 8 days to go.
Hopefully I can do it justice
